Meet Kru Jaem
Born in Auckland in 1987, Kru Jaem grew up in Te Atatu South, where he attended Edmonton Primary School. His educational journey continued at Rangeview Intermediate School, where he enjoyed a memorable two-week student exchange program to Singapore and Japan with 20 classmates. Reflecting on that experience, he says, “It was an amazing experience!” He believes that exposure to different cultures is essential for personal growth.
By 2000, while attending Rutherford High School, Kru Jaem was forming friendships with international students, especially from Brazil, China, and Taiwan. “Most of my friends were international students,” he shares. He attributes this connection to his cultural sensitivity, which helped create a welcoming environment for his peers.
Dr. Ryan James Whitehouse, known as Kru Jaem, is an accomplished educator with a diverse background, including a Bachelor of Education in English Language Teaching from St. Mary’s University in Auckland and a Master of Science in Mental Health Psychology from Paris. He also holds a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Assumption University in Thailand and a Master of Applied Management from the Southern Institute of Technology in New Zealand. Recently, he completed a doctorate in Educational Leadership, focusing on tertiary leadership and Māori development, which has been praised for promoting equality among multicultural students in New Zealand. Raised in a multicultural environment in Auckland, Dr. Jaem has developed a strong reputation for engaging teaching methods since starting his career in 2008, further enhanced by his training in IELTS instruction and a TEFL certification. After spending 20 years in Chiang Mai, Thailand, he established Thinkin Cafe to provide accessible English language education, driven by his commitment to support learners from diverse backgrounds.
A Global Initiative
The IELTS LIVE ONLINE course is already making waves in Australia, New Zealand, and Thailand, with exciting plans to expand into Japan and South Korea soon. “We’re eager to assist learners in enhancing their future leadership opportunities,” he notes.
Kru Jaem has built a solid reputation since starting his teaching career in 2008. He has undergone training in IELTS instruction through IDP Australia and holds a TEFL certification from the London Teacher’s Training College. His multicultural background and proficiency in Thai enable him to engage effectively with students from various linguistic backgrounds.
Having spent two decades in Chiang Mai, Thailand, Kru Jaem pursued a Master’s in Educational Administration at Assumption University. It was here that he recognized the importance of native English language support in education. At this point, he began his studies in the doctorate program at St. Marys Institute, part of the Catholic diocese of Auckland, where he graduated in early 2022.
Course Highlights
The IELTS LIVE ONLINE program encompasses all four key skills required for the IELTS exam: Writing, Speaking, Reading, and Listening. Students can look forward to engaging live online sessions and recorded materials for flexible learning. Additionally, a placement test helps group students according to their proficiency levels. “It’s incredibly fulfilling to see students achieve their dreams!” he adds.
The Start of Thinkin Cafe
Dr. Ryan James Whitehouse (Kru Jaem) founded Thinkin Cafe in Khon Kaen, Thailand, as a response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, initially offering English language classes. Reflecting on that time, he states, “It was difficult for everyone, but we persevered, and it has ultimately paid off.”
